I
started to look for a new sales job and went
over the ads in the newspaper everyday.
Every ad seemed more boring and depressing
than the next.
Once again, I'd been sucked into the world of disgusting jobs.
Amazingly, one day, I came across an ad from a big web design and development
company, that was looking for a senior sales person with ‘meaningful internet
experience.’
At first, I thought that I had no real chance, since my only ‘Internet
experience’ thus far came from sitting at home for months, surfing the net
like a crazy man, trying to learn the nuts and bolts of the online business
market.
However, since finally this ad dealt with the only subject that I was really
passionate about – the Internet - I decided to give it a shot.
I had nothing to lose.
I faxed them my resume and surprisingly, I was invited for an interview with
the company's CEO.
I was shocked, happy, confused, nervous, exhilarated and in panic – all at the
same time.
It really felt like this could be a golden opportunity for me.
When I arrived at the interview, I was very nervous, but probably did a pretty
decent job masking it from my interviewer - the CEO.
He started with pretty casual questions about me and my past experience.
Then, he started to ask me a few ”professional” Internet related questions.
This was the part that I dreaded, but to my utter amazement, all the questions
that he asked, seemed like a walk in the park to me and I aced them one after
the other.
Furthermore, when I replied to his questions, I felt like I had personally
invented the Internet.
Astonishingly, I had the perfect answer to all of his questions.
I used a lot of professional Internet business terms that I learned during my
long months at home, in front of my PC.
I didn't do it to impress him; it had simply become my natural language after
all the time I spent online.
Amazingly, he was not familiar with some of ”my” lingo and I had to stop and
explain what a certain term meant, every time he was not familiar with one.
At that point I began to understand that I'd been underestimating myself and I
probably knew much more than most of the other candidates for this position.
The CEO was very impressed and offered me the position right on the spot.
He delivered a long, passionate wooing speech, ‘selling’ himself, his vision,
his company, the position, my salary, my bonuses, the perks… everything.
Although I was shocked and overwhelmingly happy, I tried to maintain my poker
face and just kept nodding my head, while he kept on with his ”seduction”
speech.
Needless to say, I accepted his generous offer, which was much better than
anything I could have dreamed about.
The salary I'd been offered was ”obscene” and was way above anything I'd
earned up to that day.
All the months of continuous self-learning at home, started to pay off big
time.
I officially joined the Internet business revolution, not as a lead singer
yet, but as a band member.
However, it was a good start, as long as the music was right.
I felt like my life was improving and taking a new, better shape.
