After
failing with my first business, I had no
choice but to return to the familiar frustrating employee status.
I was broke, had no plans, no aspirations, no motivation and that meant one
thing: getting a ‘safe’ job fast, as a salesman.
That‘s the only thing I knew how to do and that seemed like the only
reasonable path I could take, at that crossroad.
I started working for a chain that sold storage solutions (closets, cabinets,
etc), but it bored me pretty quickly and I left.
Then, I worked for a small company that distributed ceramic supplies to
artists, but since I had no interest in what I did, I performed pretty poorly
and got sacked only three months after I started.
I was devastated.
It seemed that I failed at everything I‘d given a shot at.
My self-esteem was on the floor, shattered to pieces and my future seemed
bleak and pretty much hopeless.
I couldn‘t understand how someone like me, who always thought of himself as an
unpolished gem, waiting for its chance to shine - if only given a proper
chance - could hit rock bottom in such a way.
I stayed at home, unemployed, frustrated, depressed and bitter at the world.
It was beyond my comprehension how I ended up in such a mess and I was
consumed with rage, fear and loneliness.
I saw myself as a total loser and as an innocent victim of bad luck,
unfortunate circumstances, cruel fate and grave injustice.
I didn‘t hesitate to blame everything but my own personal shortcomings and I
found myself plunging into the abyss of self-pity.
These were terrible, stressful and dark times for me.
I felt encircled, as if I were surrounded by greater evil powers, all plotting
to bring me down.
This was definitely the worse period of my life.
After a couple of months of going through this tormenting hell, I did
something pretty unusual and did it spontaneously. This would later turn out
to be one of the most crucial decisions I ever made during my life: I bought a
computer and discovered the Internet.
